Our Story
In 1996 Santa Clarita Community Development Corporation (SCCDC) was formed by a group of volunteers and in 1997 they opened the Santa Clarita Shelter with 22 emergency shelter beds.
In 2005 SCCDC began operating two shelters: one in the Santa Clarita Valley with 40 beds, and a second shelter in Sylmar with 125 beds (later transitioned to another provider in 2015).
In 2010 in concert with the City of Santa Clarita and the County of Los Angeles, the Santa Clarita Shelter moved to Drayton St. with 54 beds available.
In 2011, the Santa Clarita Community Development Corporation re-branded itself as Bridge to Home.
In 2013, Bridge to Home established the Client Services Center, providing access to homeless services and housing navigation year-round using a Housing First Model.
In 2015, the Winter Shelter beds increased to 60. The Client Services Center continued to actively house people all year-round.
In 2019, all 60 shelter beds became available year round and services at the Client Services Center reached hundreds of people vulnerable to homelessness.
In 2020, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, Bridge to Home moved all 60 shelter beds to a temporary site. All of the fundraising events were re-imagined to support safe-distancing. The community showed incredible support!
Today, Bridge to Home serves over 1,000 individuals annually and engages hundreds of volunteers across the community. This year, we are thrilled to announce the opening of our long-awaited 69-bed shelter and 8-family unit facility, providing crucial support to individuals and families experiencing homelessness. Serving more than 100 people daily, we’ve been at full capacity since opening, and your ongoing support is essential to sustaining our impact. In addition, we’ve employed 50 dedicated staff members who work tirelessly to provide essential services. With our expanded capacity and strengthened community connections, we offer life-changing support in a safe, dignified, and uplifting environment—transforming lives every day. None of this would have been possible without your incredible generosity. Thank you for being a vital part of our mission.
We invite you to continue supporting our work and help us reach even more individuals and families in need. Please consider making a donation today!
